Poodle Barber

Before I became a dog groomer, I was just a new poodle owner who adored her dog. It was quite a challenge finding a good groomer for my poodle puppy. Eventually, I discovered a groomer who also had a poodle! My super social puppy loved her grooming visits because she could play with the groomer's older dog.

However, things changed when one day my dog refused to step inside the grooming salon. I wasn't ready for this, even though I had seen signs of anxiety. Still, I decided to drop her off for the appointment. When I came back, she was nicely groomed, but she looked shaken and stressed. I took her home and promised that I would never take her there again.

I canceled our next appointment and started looking for a new groomer. When I took her to another place, she outright refused to go inside. She looked at me as if to say, "No way! I’m not going in there, it's a groomer, Mom!" My only remained option was to groom her myself, and that’s how my journey as a groomer started.

I got initial help from a very generous professional groomer who I met online. She was from a different state, but she gave me all necessary basics, and was available to answer my questions.

After that first introduction, I had a long journey of learning and building new skills, and I loved every moment of it! My beloved Stella was my practice buddy, and I was grateful she didn’t mind her look. She loved every haircut, as long as the grooming session was over!

Now, a few years later, having already groomed many poodles and poodle mixes I’m excited to announce that I’m opening my own shop! Based on my experience as a poodle mom, I plan to do things differently. I want to empower dog owners to learn and use some grooming skills at home. I will invite the dog family to be present for the grooming, if the pup needs additional support. I wish this option were available back in the days.
